Tough Soldier of Christ (2 Timothy 2:1-13)
Tough Soldier of Christ
Read God's Word: 2 Timothy 2:1-13
"Join the suffering as a
good soldier of Christ Jesus." 2 Timothy 2:3
Becoming
a follower of Christ is a very noble calling because we are not only adopted as
children of God, as it is written: "For you are all children of God
through faith in Jesus Christ." (Galatians 3:26), but we are also prepared
to be His soldiers. The Bible clearly states that every believer is faced with
a spiritual battle that is fighting against "...the principalities,
against the powers, against the rulers of this dark world, against the evil
spirits of the air." (Ephesians 6:12). Therefore we must really become a
formidable warrior so that we can fight and break all the tricks of Satan. Know
that Satan always uses his cunning tactics in various ways to bring down the
faith of God's children. If we don't fight it, we will be dragged down and
consumed by the temptations of Satan. The apostle Peter advised, "Fight
against him with firm faith, for you know that all your brethren throughout the
world are suffering the same way." (1 Peter 5:9).
How our
faith grows the way is by reading and hearing God's Word through sermons,
listening to Spiritual songs, because faith comes from hearing and hearing
God's Word
Indeed, to become a truly formidable
warrior in the last days is not easy, there is a price we must pay:
1. Focus on God completely. It
was said, "A soldier who is fighting does not concern himself with matters
of his life, so that he may please his commander." (2 Timothy 2:4). A
soldier who still has to keep busy with personal matters and put aside
spiritual matters will not please God. Many Christians no longer put God first
in their lives: their prayer hours are reduced, they are no longer diligent in
reading and meditating on God's word and they are lazy to worship because they
are tired or busy working. It was very dangerous if a soldier had lost focus
while fighting even if it was only for a moment because he could lose his life.
God is our commander, and as soldiers we
must obey Him. Whatever our commander orders, we must do it wholeheartedly
without any argument!
