Paul's famous letters/writings
from prison are Ephesians, Colossians, Philippians, and Philemon. It is said to
be a letter from prison because at the time Paul wrote the letters he was a
prisoner (a person who is currently being punished for a crime/crime). The
place where Paul wrote this place can not be ascertained, some say in Ephesus.
But in the Book of Acts there is no record that he was imprisoned in Ephesus
but many theologians think Paul was in prison there.
Here is some evidence of the
place where Paul's letters from prison were written:
1. In 2 Corinthians 11:23, Paul
says he was imprisoned more often; beaten out of bounds; in 2 Corinthians he is
imprisoned in Philippi.
2. In 1 Corinthians 15:32, Paul
once fought a wild beast in Ephesus. Paul wrote this as if to give them
something they didn't know. This event follows Paul's joyful visit to Corinth
and assumes this was not the case in Ephesus, but in the province of Asia
perhaps Ladokia (Duncan).
3. In 2 Corinthians 1:8, Paul
spoke of the heavy burdens of life they went through. It could indeed be said
that he was imprisoned at the time but it could also refer to a serious
spiritual illness or crisis (E. B. Allo, St. Paul, Seconde Epitre aux
Corinthians, p. 171).
4. In Romans 16:3-4, Paul says Priscilla
and Aquila risked their lives for Paul's survival. In this context it is also
not certain that Paul was imprisoned in Ephesus, because when Paul arrived
there there was no news about them in Ephesus, because they were thought to be
in prison in Ephesus.
5. According to Clement of Rome,
Paul was in prison seven times referring to 2 Corinthians 11:23, this context
also does not confirm that Paul was in prison in Ephesus
6. According to some traditions,
Paul was thrown into the midst of wolves. the story of Titus, the commentary of
Daniel of Hippolytus (mid second century) which specifically (specifically)
records that this event took place in Ephesus. This is said to be fictional
news (fictional story).
In Acts 20:31 it says that Paul
lived in Ephesus for three years, but in this context he was not suffering (in
prison), but he was advising the people who were there.
Conclusion: Paul cannot be
certain of having been in prison in Ephesus because there is not enough
evidence, so it is uncertain where Paul wrote his letters. Was any or all of
the books written in Ephesus
The interesting things I got are:
1. This book is very interesting
for readers to read the discussion to the end.
2. The topic raised is a book
that I often hear but apparently I don't know for sure/don't know much, but
this book encourages me to be more careful in understanding everything
